Excalibur Casino shooting leaves 2 people dead

Excalibur Casino shooting leaves 2 people dead and it looks like the murder suicide was domestic violence related.

The deadly Excalibur casino shooting occurred at approximately 8:30 pm Friday night at the concierge desk located right near the casino’s front entrance.

Jessica Kenny, 30 who worked for Vegas.com was manning the concierge desk, when a man came up and shot her.

The casino was quite busy since it was a Friday evening and also because the NFR is in town.

People were scrambling for cover and, fortunately,  no one else was injured.

It appears that Kenny may have had a previous dating relationship with the man who ultimately murdered her.

The man was pronounced dead at the crime scene and the woman was transported to the hospital where she later died.

Many people do not realize just how dangerous it can be for a woman to live in Nevada, particularly Las Vegas.

Nevada has the dubious honor of ranking #1 in the nation for violence against women by men for the third year in a row and has held the top spot for five of the past six years.

The Violence Police Center released details of their research that analyzed homicides for 2010 and found that women are much more likely to be the victims of violent crimes committed by intimate partners than men are, especially if there is a weapon involved.

If you, or someone you know, are a victim of domestic violence, the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) has an extensive state coalition resource list , broken down by state, where you can obtain help.

In Las Vegas,  the Southern Nevada Domestic Violence Task Force offers valuable resources including seminars. The Nevada Network Against Domestic Violence website also offers resources, education and assistance to combat domestic violence.

Vegas.com has released the following statement regarding the Excalibur Casino shooting and Kenny’s murder,

We were saddened to learn that a member of the VEGAS.com family was the victim of tonight’s tragic and senseless killing at the Excalibur. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.
